The Governator Goes Bear Hunting In Aspen, CO

A large group of Aspen’s second homeowners are from California. Now, a “local” Aspenite has found a home in California. Govenor Arnold Schwarzenegger came to Aspen in March on a work/leisure trip, and went home with a BIG memento.

Governor Schwarzenegger came to Aspen to fundraise for two of his projects in California. The California Dream Team political action committee and Budget Reform Now are both active committees and focus on the financial struggles affecting California.  California is the eighth largest economy in the world, and so its economy affects more than just one state.

Doing his part to stimulate the economy, the governor purchased a large statue of a grizzly bear and donated it to the State of California. The 800-pound statue was shipped to California and it stands now in the capitol building. Rumor has it that the governor negotiated a price 30% off of the retail price and spent around $20,000 for the statue.

The grizzly bear is the State of California’s official animal, and Aspen is proud to have one of its ”natives” adopted by California.
