Summer Activity at Snowmass
Aspen Skiing Company is planning to make the Elk Camp Meadows area the new hub of summer activity at Snowmass Ski Area. Beginning around June 20th, new hiking and biking trails will be open, along with the Cafe Suzanne restaurant. The Elk Camp gondola will run regularly. If you would like to see disc golf and overnight camping allowed in this area, White River National Forest Staff are seeking public comments.
The Skiing Company wants to move the existing disc golf cours from Sam’s Knob (the west side of the mountain) to below the Elk Camp area. An overnight camping spot for Camp Aspen/Snowmass is also being proposed which would accomodate up to 25 campers up to three nights per week all summer long, just west of the gondola. SkiCo personell would monitor camping activities. According to the Forest Service, both activities would be implemented in such a way as to minimize resource impacts to the land.
Comments should be submitted by May 10 to Jim Stark at the Aspen Ranger District by emailing wrnf_scoping_comments@fs.fed.us.
Get ready for some great summer activities on the mountain!
