Last night I attended a special one-night-only performance, featuring a collaboration of Aspen Santa Fe Ballet and Aspen Music Festival and School for an evening of dance and classical music at the Benedict Music Tent. Featuring the combined talents of dancers, musicians, choreographers and composers, this was truly an extraordinary presentation. The evening featured excerpts from Romeo and Juliet, with music by Prokofiev and Nicolo Fonte’s Where We Left Off, with music by Philip Glass.  This is definitely one of the best events of Aspen’s summer season!

The Aspen Chamber Resort Association produced an incredible video on all that is desirable about Aspen.  The beautiful scenery, the amazing outdoor adventures, culinary delights, arts and culture – Aspen is really tough to beat.  This video illuminates the fact that you can truly “defy ordinary” in Aspen, Colorado.  Click Here to view this video on YouTube .  If you aren’t already a member of our zip code, maybe you should be!

Aspen Rotary Club’s annual fund-raiser, the Ducky Derby, has given away $2.3 million so far and is celebrating its 20th race in 2011.

Who knew that nearly half a million little rubber duckies floating down a river could raise $2.3 million to benefit over 65 non-profit educational, health, human service and youth recreation organizations?  No one could have anticipated that such a fun, family Aspen event would create hundreds of budding young entrepreneurs and provide health and financial sustenance to people around the world.  (more…)

Looking for an amazing Aspen hike a little off the beaten path?  Try the hike to Thomas Lakes.  Located at the base of Mount Sopris and accessed easily from Basalt or Carbondale, this trail is absolutely beautiful right now (see photo).   Thomas Lakes Trail is 3.6 miles each way and, is a well-maintained, moderate trail in great condition.  (more…)

Skiing conditions are the best they have been all season thanks to the heavy snowstorm Aspen received earlier this week.  The mountains received two feet of snow on Tuesday and Wednesday.  The combination of chilly temperatures and bluebird skies has made for the best skiing so far this winter season in Aspen.  (more…)
