Major downtown zoning changes approved by council

Aspen City Council set a two-story limit on new development downtown, capped building heights at 28 feet and sharply limited residential development in the commercial core and surrounding business district.

The 3-1 vote to approve the amendments reverses regulations adopted nine years ago that spurred major redevelopment of the downtown core. The era of three-story, mixed-use buildings topped with a penthouse condominium appears to be over. (more…)
